David LaCerte leads the Firm's Baton Rouge office, joining SNW in 2018. David prides himself not only on being a litigator, but a problem solver with a focus on business, public affairs and public sector consulting, general litigation and personal injury law.
Prior to law school, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman, where he led Marines in the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan to include the initial amphibious assault which is regarded as the longest in the history of warfare. David still serves the veterans and military families of Louisiana in many ways, including as an advocate for programs at the Louisiana and U.S. Legislatures and with local nonprofits in providing pro bono guidance and legal work. He serves on boards of charities and has helped raise over a million dollars for military families.
After beginning his legal career in private practice, David accepted an appointment at the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, where he held the posts of Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Executive Counsel, and Legislative Liaison. He oversaw operations in healthcare, benefits, employment, education, and cemeteries with annual revenues of over one billion dollars.
David has also served as the chairman of many boards and commissions. For example, as Chair of the Louisiana Military Advisory Council, David represented the military footprint of Louisiana with three of the top five largest employers in the state in Fort Polk, Barksdale Airforce Base, and Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans, respectively. In this post, he successfully lobbied the Department of Defense, branches of service, and United States Congress to maintain and actually increase troop strengths during times of widespread force reductions and sequestration.
He is a graduate of Nicholls State University in Business and the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU. He is licensed to practice law in Louisiana and before the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in Washington D.C.
David resides in Baton Rouge with his wife and two daughters. When he is not fighting for his clients or spending time with his family, he enjoys duck hunting, fishing, LSU sports, and coaching youth baseball.
